Managed Backup and Recovery

For organizations whose backups run on their own and whose full recovery has never been tested.

We run and check your backups and test restores on a schedule rather than assuming they work. We also keep a recovery plan that says who does what when a system is down.

How we help

We run and restore-test your backups and exercise the recovery plan each year. Disaster recovery design for a critical application is a separate project, Disaster Recovery to Azure.

Backup operations and restore testing

Daily job health, failures chased the same day, restores tested on a rotating schedule with evidence, and a missing immutable copy flagged and scoped separately.

What you get

  • Daily job checks, Microsoft 365 mail, OneDrive, and SharePoint included
  • Weekly and monthly success and failure reports
  • Sample file, whole-server, and application restores on a schedule
  • Restore evidence kept for your auditor
  • Immutable or air-gapped copies run where they exist
  • Runbooks for backup failure and restore requests

Best for

Backup failures noticed weeks late, an auditor asking for restore evidence, or ransomware on the board agenda.

Recovery plan and yearly exercise

A recovery plan with a process to declare a disaster, and a full exercise each year with recovery times measured and an after-action report.

What you get

  • Recovery plan: who declares, who does what
  • Yearly full exercise on a dedicated weekend
  • Recovery time and point measured against targets
  • After-action report with the fixes

Best for

A plan that exists on paper and was never run.

Questions we get

Do you replace our backup software?

Not by default. We run what you have, from Veeam to Azure Backup, and redesign only when the Assess phase shows a gap, such as no immutable copy. Redesign is a project, scoped on its own.

How often do you test restores?

On a rotating schedule written into the agreement: sample files often, whole servers in turn, applications less often but in full, and one complete recovery exercise a year. Each test leaves evidence.

Who owns the recovery objectives?

You do. We help set recovery time and recovery point targets per system during the Assess phase, then measure the yearly exercise against them and report where they were missed.

What about large restores for legal matters?

Restores on request are part of the service. Large restores for legal matters run as a work order, so the effort and the chain of custody are recorded.

What changes the size of managed backup?

Mostly how much data and how many systems are protected, and which backup platform you run. It also depends on whether an immutable copy exists and how far your recovery objectives reach.

Can we buy this on its own?

Yes. Managed backup can be bought on its own or with the rest of Managed IT Services. When we also run the servers, one Assess phase covers both. Agreement terms are negotiable.

Talk to us about Managed Backup and Recovery

It starts with a 60-minute call. If we need more to scope it, a short questionnaire follows. Then a written proposal and statement of work. Once you approve, we begin with the Assess phase.
