The challenge

The firm’s desktops were on an operating system nearing end of life, and its Exchange 2013 servers were aging. Its SharePoint 2013 intranet had no mobile support, and its search was out of date.

All three had to move while employees in 30+ locations kept working.

What we did

  1. Project 1:Desktop upgrade (Windows 10, at the time)

A senior engineer dedicated to the project for 36 weeks built the enterprise image, set the security policies, deployed through Configuration Manager, and migrated user data. All devices were upgraded.

  2. Project 2:Exchange 2013 to Exchange Online

After an assessment and design, we built a high-availability Exchange 2019 environment, current at the time, as the bridge. We set up hybrid with the parent company’s Microsoft 365 tenant, piloted the move with rollback ready, then migrated the mailboxes to Exchange Online. Sign-in uses MFA through Okta.

  3. Project 3:SharePoint 2013 to SharePoint Online

We started with discovery and a governance plan, then moved the content with ShareGate, rebuilt three site collections and a hub site, and upgraded the old forms to Power Platform.

Results

  • Email in Exchange Online

The mailboxes run in a hybrid setup, so workloads can move when needed.

  • An intranet on SharePoint Online

It works with Teams and Microsoft 365, with mobile access and Microsoft Search.

  • Brought back for the next project

The firm keeps bringing its major Microsoft infrastructure projects to us.
